Graphic Arts Center’s Green Printing commitment at-a-glance
+ All waste paper at our facility is recycled. In 2007 we recycled 3,703 tons of high-quality paper. (When compared to using virgin paper fiber, each ton of recycled paper saves 7000 gallons of water; enough energy to power the average American home for 6 months; 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space; 60 lbs. of air pollution.)
= Based on this, our 2007 efforts saved almost 26 million gallons of water; enough energy to power 1,851 homes for a year; 12,220 cubic yards of landfill space; over 111 tons of air pollution.
+ All metal at our facility, including aluminum and steel, is recycled. In 2007 we recycled 60,608 pounds of metal.
+ We offer three client apartments on-site at our printing facility. This allows clients to be nearby for press checks, cutting down on transportation to and from the facility, meaning less fossil fuel is burned.
+ We have eliminated silver from our waste stream by investing in a completely digital prepress department that requires no film.
+ We use a computer-controlled ink system to ensure accuracy. This has dramatically reduced the number of drums of leftover ink that remain in a given year.
+ All solvent at our facility is reclaimed or recycled.
+ All wood at our facility (primarily from pallets) is recycled.
+ We've reduced our energy consumption by installing a variable-speed air compressor and energy-efficient lighting in our pressroom.
